Michigan Farmer's Market Association
About MIFFS

Michigan Food and Farming Systems – MIFFS is a statewide, membership-based nonprofit organization whose purpose is to improve Michigan's triple bottom line: our economy, our environment and the social wellbeing of our communities through sustainable agriculture initiatives.

MIFFS works with partners throughout the state to bring farmers and communities together through our core initiatives: assisting family farmers, growing marketing opportunities, supporting agricultural stewardship and sustainable production, and informing and influencing public policy.

MIFFS received a grant with key partners at Michigan State University from the Farmer Market Coalition Project for Public Spaces to develop the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA) to promote local food consumption in Michigan by connecting more farmers to consumers through farmers markets.

Some of MIFFS’ other current projects include the Multicultural Farmers Program, a hoophouse outreach program for year-round production, and a project to accelerate value chains in Michigan and the Midwest.  All of these projects aim to make farmers more successful and sustainable.

Mission Statement: MIFFS’ purpose is to advance and sustain food and farming in which agricultural productivity, environmental stewardship and profitability reinforce each other for the benefit of Michigan's rural and urban communities.

Vision Statement: MIFFS is a recognized leader and resource to establish and develop more sustainable productive food systems for Michigan. We nurture successful partnerships between farmers and communities resulting in more profitable, environmentally friendly food systems.
